The Silicon Valley Charity Ball was the model for fundraising and celebration in the glory years of Silicon Valley. It brought black-tie elegance to the valley’s culturally-starved tech sector and rallied the corporate citizen to the cause of helping those in need, right in our own backyard.

Yet, philanthropy to the corporate sector was just another marketing tool. And the ball was an opportunity to network, build and promote a company’s brand, while “feeling good” about doing it. And it was a great party!

This blog reflects on the golden era of Silicon Valley and how the  Charity Ball went from “the place to be seen” to yet another casualty of the ups and down of “the home of innovation”, Silicon Valley.
